LA Dodgers' Yoshinobu Yamamoto tasted the joy of being selected as the "Pitcher of the Month" for the fifth time in Japanese history.

MLB.com announced Monday the best performers in the American League and the National League from March to April. Yamamoto was named in the Pitcher of the Month category.

Yamamoto, who will wear the Dodgers uniform through a 12-year, $325 million contract (about 455.7 billion won) prior to the 2024 season, played 7-2 with a 3.00 ERA in 18 games last year. Although he did not play the full-time season due to injury, he helped the Dodgers win the National League West, and also put the Dodgers at the top of the postseason with two wins and no losses with a 3.86 ERA in four games.
And this year, Yamamoto is running more fiercely. He won his first game of the season with one run (one earned) in five innings in the opening game of the Chicago Cubs and Tokyo Series at Tokyo Dome on March 18, and left a good pitch against the Detroit Tigers with two runs (two earned) in five innings in his first appearance in the U.S. mainland on the 29th, linking the atmosphere to his April appearance.

Yamamoto lost the game on the 5th of last month due to lack of support from the batters, but he allowed one run (non-earned) in six innings against the Philadelphia Phillies and marked six scoreless innings against the Cubs, who met again on the 12th. He then scored his first quality start of the season (less than three earned runs in seven innings) in a showdown with the Texas Rangers on the 19th, and three runs (one earned run) in five innings in a showdown with the Pittsburgh Pirates on the 26th.

Yamamoto got off to his best start, going 3-2 with a 1.06 ERA and 43 strikeouts in 34 innings in six appearances between March and April, and was named the "Pitcher of the Month" by the Major League Baseball Secretariat. He is the fifth Japanese pitcher to be named the pitcher of the Month after Hideo Nomo, Hideki Arabu, Masahiro Tanaka (Yomiuri Giants), and Yu Darvish (San Diego Padres). It was the first time in two years as a Dodgers pitcher since Clayton Kershaw in April 2023.

If Yamamoto was selected as the pitcher of the month in the 스포츠토토 National League, Max Fried (New York Yankees), who had five wins and no losses in seven games, was honored in the American League. And Aaron Judge (Yankees), who has 50 hits, 10 homers, 32 RBIs and a batting average of 0.424 OPS of 1.272 in 32 games, was selected as the American League's "Player of the Month," and Pete Alonso (New York Mets), who is on the "FA re-entry" in the National League, was named.

In addition, Christian Campbell (Boston Red Sox) in the American League as the "Rookie of the Month," Luizangel Acuna (Metz), the younger brother of Ronald Acuna Jr. (Atlanta Braves) in the National League, and Andres Muñoz (Seattle Mariners) and Robert Suarez (San Diego) as the "Reliever of the Month" were honored.
